Introduction: Risk Board 2018-2019

Hello Risk Magazine Reader! We want to welcome all the new Risk Members as well as the existing Risk Members on our Risk Magazine Website. This week, we are honored to write an article for the Magazine ourselves. Yesterday we officially started as the Risk Board 2018-2019. Even though we had the opportunity to meet some of you already, we would like to use this article to introduce ourselves. Together with you we are sure we can make this another great year. We are going to introduce ourselves in turns.

It has especially been exciting to get to know the other Risk members.

Annelien Netjes – Chairman
Hi all! What a nice opportunity this is to introduce ourselves. My name is Annelien, 23 years old and currently doing my masters in International Financial Management. When I came to Groningen a while back, I started my bachelor International Business. As you see in my studies, I have always been pretty international oriented. In my third year, I had the amazing opportunity to go on exchange  for a semester to Singapore. Hereafter, I went on a study trip to South-Africa, which I also enjoyed a lot! When I came back, I started my first committee at Risk: the Dutch Banking Tour.

As you might know, I have been around at the Risk office for a while now. On the 14th of December I was thrilled to hear that I was going to be announced as the Chairman of the Risk Board 2018-2019 . Over the past few months, my life has slowly started to revolve around Risk. During these months, I got to learn lot about Risk and above all, I got to meet a lot of new people! It has especially been exciting to get to know the other Risk members.

My first job as a chairman was to find my fellow board members. A task I believe to have completed very well, since I am very happy with the Risk Board! The 14th of March will be our first official day at the office. Anyway, feel free to walk by any time if you have a question or if you just want to chat. See you!

The experience gave useful insights into working life and the work I did was very challenging and fulfilling.

Patrick Driessen – Secretary
Hi, my name is Patrick Driessen. I am currently studying Finance and Economics. I have been active within Risk as the Promotion & Logistics of the Dutch Banking Tour 2017. Even though I had already participated in several events organized by Risk, this committee showed me what it is like to be active within Risk. After several coffee dates with the then current board, I knew a board year was what I wanted. I first went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for an internship. This was an awesome experience where I had the opportunity to see many beautiful places in South-East Asia. Following this I went to do an thesis internship in Amstelveen. The experience gave useful insights into working life and the work I did was very challenging and fulfilling. A couple days after I returned to Groningen we were announced as the Risk Board 2018-2019 where I would fulfill to role of Secretary. The past several weeks have been a blast and I am looking forward to everything this year is going to bring!

I liked to do something more and started as an active member of Risk this year.

Kas van den Broek – Treasurer
Hi, my name is Kas van den Broek and I am 21 years old. I am the Treasurer of the Risk Board 2018 – 2019. Currently I am trying to finish my Bachelor Business Administration profile Accountancy & Controlling, and my Bachelor Philosophy of a Specific Discipline. During my study Business Administration I felt that I like to develop myself wider. For that reason I started with the Bachelor Philosophy of a Specific Discipline last year. Besides following an extra study I liked to do something more and started as an active member of Risk this year. As active member I started as Commercial Relation of the Advisory Inhouse Days, which will take place at the end of April. During this committee I got more enthusiastic about Risk and got interested in a Board year at Risk. After some coffee dates and the application I was glad to be announced as the Treasurer of the Risk Board 2018–2019. The weeks after the announcement were great and I am looking forward to the coming year!

I am excited and really looking forward to start my Risk Board year.

Bart Oude Avenhuis – External Coordinator
Hi everyone! My name is Bart Oude Avenhuis and I am happy to introduce myself as the External Coordinator of the Risk Board 2018-2019. Five years ago I started my journey in Groningen studying Business Economics here at the FEB. Groningen felt like a new home. However, I wanted to discover the world and so I went on an internship in India. I have a very broad interest, which made me decide to also start another bachelor, Accountancy. This new study gave me the opportunity to organize the Risk Accountancy Week last October where I got to know many people within Risk.

Last year I became a board member of the Student Golf Association here in Groningen were I work on external relations. Because of the fun I had in this position I knew which position I wanted when applying for the Risk Board. After finishing my Bachelors in both Business Economics and Accountancy I started my Master in Finance last September. I really felt my Groningen experience was not ready to end and after my active membership within Risk I knew I wanted to apply for the new Risk Board. Now, here I am.

I am excited and really looking forward to start my Risk Board year. I hope to see you at one of our socials or activities and otherwise please feel free to drop by at our office any time!

I wanted to do something extra for my personal development on a professional level.

Manon van der Woning – Internal Coordinator
Hi everyone, my name is Manon and I will be the Internal Coordinator in the Risk Board 2018-2019. I am twenty years old and therefore the youngest of the group, but for me this is not a disadvantage. Quite the opposite, I am very enthusiastic and I want to learn a lot in the upcoming year! Currently, I am studying Business Administration and I am in the third year of the bachelor track Accountancy & Controlling. The first study year, I had a lot of fun with new friends, but gradually I thought I could use more challenging activities besides my study. I wanted to do something extra for my personal development on a professional level. That’s why I joined Risk! I have been the PR in the Day Organization of the Risk Conference 2017. The Active Membership has given me much experience and I met a lot of new people. At the beginning of this college year, I wanted to be in a committee at Risk again and I applied for the Accountancy Tour 2018. Next to this, I also joined the Accountancy & Controlling Society. I am so happy that I can expand my Risk journey with a Board year and I hope to make you all as enthusiastic as I am this year!

Hopefully we gave a clear introduction of ourselves. You are of course welcome any time to stop by the office for a chat and a cup of coffee. We look forward to a great year with you all!
